As the coronavirus spreads like wildfire across Italy, Pope Francis will pivot to video for his public blessings.
The 83-year-old head of the Catholic Church will deliver his Sunday and Wednesday blessings on video stream rather than in person, according to The Associated Press.
Vatican City reported its first confirmed coronavirus case Friday. And Italy has become one of the hardest-hit countries on the planet, with more than 5,800 cases and a death toll at 233, authorities in the country said Saturday. Nationwide, schools have shuttered.
The country has the largest case count outside of Asia. The outbreak first originated in central China in December.
The Pope himself battled a cold in recent days, although he tested negative for the coronavirus.
