There are now 97,870 cases of COVID-19 and at least 3,347 deaths, according to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering’s Centers for Systems Science and Engineering. About 53,000 people worldwide have recovered. Case counts in Iran, Italy, and South Korea continue to rise; Iran now has 3,513 cases and 107 deaths, Italy has 3,858 cases and 148 deaths, and South Korea has 6,088 cases and 35 deaths. The number of cases in the U.S. is also rising, with at least 206 people testing positive for COVID-19 and 11 people have died. The first U.S. death outside of Washington was reported in California. Cases of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus that was first detected in December in Wuhan, China, are slowing in China, which has reported the majority of cases and deaths.
